The Biu Gee (thrusting/darting fingers) is sometimes also referred to as Biu Tse, Biu Tze, Biu Jee or even Bil Gee. The different ways to spell it, arise because it is hard to Romanized (put into Latin or western letters) Cantonese speech. Despite the different spellings the pronunciation in Cantonese is the same.
Biu Gee form is the third and final empty-hand form in the Wing Chun system and was traditionally only taught to close or trusted Wing Chun students. Of the three Wing Chun “empty-hand” forms, the third one, ‘Biu Gee’, is the most misunderstood. It has been touted as a “deadly” form which one can become invincible in combat. It has been said to have been so treasured by the Wing Chun clan that it was rarely seen and never taught to “outsiders.” The ‘Biu Gee’ form has also been said to contain the secrets of Dim Mak, the so-called “delayed death touch” with which one can dispose of their enemy with one touch, depending, of course, on the time of day, and so on. Today it is still advertised for its advanced techniques, advanced “energies”, special techniques and is considered the emergency form, focusing on powerful strikes and quick recovery. The last statement about emergency and recovery is true, but unfortunately, outside its original environment and settings for which it was designed for, it is still largely misunderstood and taught wrongly.
The Biu Gee form includes unique techniques such as finger strikes, elbow strikes, and sweeping techniques. It emphasizes explosive power and targets vulnerable areas of an opponent’s body. The form also incorporates techniques to recover from unfavorable positions or recover from mistakes made during a fight. It is important to note that learning the Biu Gee form requires a solid foundation in previous Wing Chun forms, such as Siu Lim Tao and Chum Kiu. It is recommended to learn under the guidance of a qualified Wing Chun instructor to ensure proper technique and understanding. Practicing the Biu Gee form can enhance your overall Wing Chun skills, providing you with advanced techniques and strategies that can be used in self-defense or martial arts practice. Biu Gee completes the basic training in Wing Chun system and in our school, by completing the Biu Gee level, practitioners achieve the instructor level.
